Phil
comes from Cape Town, South Africa. He was born and raised in Zimbabwe
and has lived in South Africa for 30 years.
He started Circle
Dancing with the Cape Town group about 18 years ago and has been choreographing
dances and facilitating since 2002. Phil has choreographed over 70 dances and
in particular likes to create dances to African and Celtic music.
His favourite music sources for the African dances are Zimbabwe,
Senegal and Mali and he likes to explore the different rhythms from
the meditative to the wild, earthy beats that characterise much of African music.
The
Celtic music mainly originates from Ireland and Scotland
and Phil has used it to create many flowing, gentle dances that transcend our
cultural differences and touch the soul. When not dancing he earns a living as
a Civil Engineer specialising in the structural components of port and coastal
projects.
